Do You Have Too Much Time?
How time controls and gives us freedom
By Mo2

I’m going to warn you in advance, this is going to be one those articles where I ramble on and if you’re one of those people that think, “I don’t have time!!!” then you might not want to waste your time reading this.

Having time for anything seems to be hard for many people nowadays. What, with all the things going on from eating breakfast, reading the newspaper, having meetings, picking your nose, sleepwalking, to walking your dog and picking your nose again, who has time?

23.94 hours a day
We have 24 hours in a day, actual a little less because a day is considered the time it takes the Earth to make a full rotation. So we actually 23.94 or so hours in a day. Anyhow, if you think about it we actually have a lot of time. Sure when you work 8 hours a day and sleep 8 hours a day you’re left with another 8. So what happens in that other 8? Well you have 3 meals (9 for some), commute, smoke (not saying what), and everything else that your day consists of. Even then you still have time to do whatever.

Every minute that you sit there complain about how you don’t have time to do anything is a minute wasted. I know too many people that say they don’t have time. Time usually isn’t the problem, it’s actually energy because if you had the energy to do everything you would have plenty of time to do everything in the 24 hours that you are given.

I’ve had times in my life when I was so busy that I could barely sleep. And I’ve had times when I had plenty of time and wasted a lot of it. I still waste a lot of time and I admit it but I’m human and I admit that as well. Sometimes it’s ok to waste time and sometimes it isn’t it really depends on what you want in life and what your goals are.

Wasting Your Time
If you have absolutely no idea what to do in life, you’re bound to waste time. But if you have a dream and are willing to invest time into it, you’re putting your time to good use. Sure we only have 24 hours in a day but if you think about things on a bigger scale, some of us will only live short lives. I was told by a palm reader, well she was actually a girl sitting next to me in my 5th grade class, that I would only live to 40. Sometimes I believe this and actually don’t plan to live too long. I think way too much about everything that I’m probably killing myself slowly. Don’t worry, this isn’t a suicide note, I have too many things I want to accomplish in life to die yet.

Thinking of everyday as your last
That’s said a lot and I guess with good reason. But you obviously don’t want to die tomorrow, the idea is to treat yourself and everyone around you like you will. I would guess that most of you would agree with me that, that isn’t something easily accomplished. We take too many things for granted and time is one of them.

If you were told that the next time you were having a meal or going to sleep would be your last, you would think of it differently? Most likely you would. Because you would actually think about it and appreciate those moments. If you begin to appreciate everything around you then it will help you understand that sometimes, things aren't as bad as they seem. Sure, life isn't perfect and some are better off than others, but on the other hand you are lucky to be exactly where you are. This will help you like yourself more.

Mo2 Thinks
Well, I guess I’ve done enough rambling and it’s time to put things together. We only have 24 or less hours a day and I think that everyone should stop complaining about how little time they have and look on the positive side and starting thinking that they are given 24 hours a day and start thinking of it as a privilege. Imagine the possibilities that everyday holds, and what 24 hours could do to our lives. Just as how that famous song goes, "what a difference a day makes” that holds true to everyone. I’m sure everyone has had a day where something significant happened to them that changed their lives forever. I can list 10 right off the top of my head and I’m sure I can spit out many more if given the time.

Who has too much time anyway? Just because you’re working 14 hours a day and get only 4 hours of sleep doesn’t put you in a worse situation than anyone. Think positive, you might be in a tough situation in your life and can’t afford not to work that much. But if you can muster up a positive attitude then working that much won’t seem too bad. Just make sure you know you’re headed somewhere.

Having goals are absolutely essential. Because this site is focused on finance and investment let’s talk about a monetary goal. If you are in a life straining situation where you have to work 14 hours a day to survive, then you need to sit down and think about what you can do to make your life better. As long as you’re alive you have a chance. I had a conversation with someone the other day about having a chance in life, and although some people are better off than others at the start, we all are human beings after all and have a chance to do something with the life that is handed with us.

Seem like I’m going way off topic? Not really, it all ties into what we do with our time. If we can be positive and productive with our time we can make everyone happy including you. Having a schedule is one thing but following your schedule and actively having fun with is another. At the end of the day, every minute counts, so stop complaining and enjoy the time you are given. I'm not sure if I was able to accomplish what I wanted to say in this article and I apologize if I didn't. Being clear about anything isn't always possible even if you haven't the clearest thoughts in your mind.
