Another pain of smoking
Yes, yet another pain of smoking

Reasons and More Reasons
All you smokers out there have probably heard an infinite number of reasons why you should quit smoking. I've probably given out a million myself to friends and family and I know I'm right. I haven't smoked a cigarette in my life and never plan to, but I drink alcohol so I guess I'm just as guilty just a tad healthier.

Killer Expense (No it's not only bad for your health)
Here's another reason for you to quit smoking. With the price of cigarettes especially in Canada, you could save a substantial amount of money if you quit. If you smoke a pack a day and I unfortunately know quite a few people that do, then here are your financial consequences/possible savings.

1 pack = roughly $7.00.
365 days a year = $2,555 annual spending.

Even if you smoke half of that you're looking at over $1,250 a year just on smoking!
Now, at 6% return over 5 years of just investing that $1,250, you're looking at roughly $7,303.59 monthly compounded.

Now if you do smoke a pack a day that's roughly $212.92 a month ($2,555/12) and if you invest that at 6% compounded monthly, you're looking at roughly $14,929.71 after 5 years. Now I don't know about you, but that could buy a lot of things.

Imagine what you could buy
If you cut back in your smoking or even quit outright, then you could pay for your children's future post secondary education or add to your investment portfolio, which would make your life a lot easier after you retire. Actually, you might be able to retire earlier if you're smart enough.

What reason do you have to smoke?
Ok, I'm giving out my views on financial advice but I'll give you my two cents as to why you shouldn't smoke. First off, it's really annoying for those of us that don't smoke. I'm really happy that restaurants don't allow people to smoke inside because it was hell before. Second hand smoke is actually a lot worse than for those that are actually smoking the cigarette.

It could also affect your future children's health. If you're thinking of quitting once you get married then guess what, you might just be a little late. You need to face reality with where you're going with smoking; it isn't helping anyone other than the tobacco companies and the government who gets tax income.

Give me a good reason as to why you smoke? You're stressed out? You get fat when you don't smoke? These are just excuses there a ton of other ways for you to relieve stress and eating isn't the only way to get rid of that emptiness in your mouth. It's an addiction so it'll obviously be difficult to quit they're made that way. But imagine the life (literally) of possibilities there are if you quit smoking and start thinking of your future, not only financially but in general.
